Choices, Choices, Too Many Choices

Well, we've looked at 15+ properties already and have narrowed the list of potential homes down to two. The first......

Pros: Great location, nice lot/yard, good layout, neighborhood setting with kids
Cons: House needs to be repainted, refloored due to smoker, Deck/front porch needs to be resealed, front porch and trim need repainting

Next...

Pros: New build & move-in ready, great layout, central vacuum system, beautiful kitchen, awesome master suite with huge closets, nice loft space which could be used as computer/craft area, backs to a wetland
Cons: Four home cul-de-sac off a major road (like Riverside Dr. for you Michiganders...25 mph speed limit), backyard needs to be cleared/leveled/fenced, no central air, does not appear to be as kid-friendly as other home

Check out our Portland Home Album for more pictures of the above properties.

We've got more properties on the docket for tomorrow. We would seriously think about offering for one of these two homes. Tell us what you think!

Hi Raquel and Chad,

I'll go for the Hillsboro property. You will probably spend the same amount getting the backyard cleared and leveled vs. repainting and reflooring the other house. As far as the kid-friendly neighborhood - it has its pros and cons. It seems that there is not much privacy at the back - too many houses.

We'll call you guys later.

I would have to agree with Mom and Dad. I see the cul de sac as being more of a positive than a negative even though it may be on a busy street.

You have the freedom to develop the yard as you wish and I'm liking the idea of a large space for crafts, etc.

You also seem much more passionate about this home than the other.

Good luck with the rest of the house search.

Both of them are in Hillsboro, which worries me from the school angle. Test scores were in Thursday's paper, you can take a look, but the biggest risk with Hillsboro schools in the funding base is really weak... They made the biggest cuts of all of the major districts last year during the budget crunch. What is the age of the homes? What is the siding material? There was a big problem in oregon for homes built in the early 90's with a low grade of siding, so the home that needs paint worries me. Also, having to re-paint and re-floor the whole thing, right after moving in and taking a new job, and a rug rat, would be hellish to say the best (opinion). Bring everything you have seen to dinner tonight, and we can look over them.
