Niagara West

Old Sol called again today. Seriously, we're beginning to think rainy Oregon is just a big conspiracy dreamed up to prevent people from moving here. Granted the Willamette valley was blanketed in pea soup-like fog all day but it was beautiful at the coast. We went west this morning to hike Niagara Falls. It was a beautiful hike through coastal rainforest complete with moss shrouded firs, ferns, and toadstools. Our destination was a waterfall box canyon with both Pheasant Creek Falls and Niagara Falls within 1/10 of a mile of each other. There is something to be said about off-season hiking. I imagine that the trail gets relatively heavy use given that benches and picnic tables dotted the way. But on this last weekend of November, we had the trail to ourselves.

Afterwards, we took advantage of the cloudless views on the coast and drove the Three Capes Loop where we took in Three Arches Rock, the Octopus Tree, and Cape Meares Lighthouse. Methinks Cape Lookout is in the cards for next month so we can do some whalewatching during the height of the grey whale migration...
