Flowers!!!!

I got a nice floral surprise today. Flowers and chocolate!!! Thank you Mom & Dad!!!
What was the occasion? Well I really don't recommend doing what I did to get them. You see, I got hit by a car last Wednesday.

I'm OK...thankfully. It could have been a lot worse. My *souvenirs* were scraped elbows, a large goose egg with road rash on the back of my head, and a big headache. Plus my body was stiff and sore yesterday....in short, I felt like I got hit by a truck.

The story? I went out for my usual lunchtime run and five minutes into it, I was approaching a side street when an SUV pulled up at the same time and was waiting to turn right. The driver looked towards traffic but didn't look in my direction and pulled in just as I entered the crosswalk. It was like slow motion and I tried to dodge out of the way by putting my hands up against the hood and the momentum made me fall backwards and hit my head against the pavement. 911 was called...I got put into a lovely neck brace then strapped and taped to a back board to prepare me for an ambulance ride to the nearest ER.

The ambulance ride was interesting. They said they put *foam* underneath my head to cushion it but it hurt so much I swear it was a small 2X4. Neck brace...very uncomfortable. Ditto the backboard and the lights were so bright it made me dizzy. Good thing the ride was short or I would have been puking from motion sickness and they would have probably kept me longer for observation (read....I sit in bed so bored to tears I want to scratch my eyes out). They gave me a CT scan to confirm I didn't have a concussion, called Chad, then sent me home.

I was wearing my Road ID and put it to use when three people started asking me the same questions all at once. I just took it off, gave it to someone and asked them to look at it then talk amongst themselves since it was taking me a good 20-30 seconds to process everything said to me.

I learned a very valuable lesson to never assume stopped drivers see you and it is a downside to running against traffic but I'd rather have time to dive out of the way if need be so I'll continue doing as I'm doing.

Thankfully, I'll be back to my usual energetic self in a few days. Chad said if I'm good, I can even go hiking this weekend! Typical Rx to take it easy and a note to Chad to watch for any signs of concussion. Not an adventure I'd like to repeat....ever.

Be safe out there everyone!

Just what I said a couple of nights ago - the first and hopefully the last adventure of Red Ethel Rackham!

Love,

Dad and Mom
