Harvest

Look at what just came from our backyard. The land our house stands on used to be owned by the president of Portland's Rhododendron Society so we inherited quite a few beautiful rhododendrons.

We also inherited a fig tree, one of the golden varieties and we have a bumper crop this year of both brebas (old growth) figs and new growth figs. Due to the heat of the last couple of weeks, the brebas crop has started to ripen nicely.

We picked the first of the season's figs today. And oh are they yummy! Soft, succulent, filled with honeyed flesh. Add silky slices of prosciutto, shards of Parmegiano Reggiano, and a drop of aged balsamic and life is good.
